2023 Disruptors Summit Recap | |
The sold-out Packaging Innovation Disruptors Summit happened on June 6th, 2023 at the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation, located at Humber College's North Campus in Toronto. The event provided a platform for industry professionals to network, exchange ideas, collaborate on the future of packaging, and fostered a culture of innovation for our future. | | | |
The summit kicked off with a keynote address from Bob Barrett, Chairman of Polytainers Inc. and founder of The Barrett Family Foundation, which provided a $42-million investment in Humber College for the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. | |
One of the highlights of the event was the exhibition hall, where 20 summit Disruptors showcased their groundbreaking packaging innovations. Introducing our newest member: Claire Sand Claire Sand thinks of "all food packaging all the time." As a scientist, she focuses on packaging that increases the shelf life of food in the most sustainable way possible. Claire has over 35 years of expertise in packaging suppliers, brands, and retailers ranging from basic research through marketing. Recent projects include creating a three-phase innovation pipeline for a paperboard packaging supplier, quantifying the impact of 40 packaging solutions to prevent food waste for 15 categories, and developing and ranking more sustainable packaging solutions for three brands using LifeCycleImpact assessments.
Claire is an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University and CalPoly and a recipient of the lifetime achievement award in food packaging and a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists

Announcing Three New University Scholarships PAC Global has partnered with Kellogg's to create three new university scholarships to promote inclusive and universal packaging design. The scholarships provide financial support to one student per year from each institution, commencing in 2024 through 2028 – who can demonstrate their unique approach to innovation and design, focusing on inclusivity and universal design for packaging.
